SM SHANGHAI-PLATE TYPE COOLER MAINTENANCE -ZHOUSHAN LONGSHAN SHIPYARD

In September, Sea Legend team delivered plate cooler maintenance solutions to safeguard M/V SM SHANGHAI’s cooling system reliability during her dry docking periods at zhoushan longshan shipyard. We successfully executed the overhaul of No.2 L.O and Central Fresh Water Cooler ,which goes beyond simple cleaning and ensures a full lifecycle restoration for heat exchange device.

Job Scope:

1. Dismantle and remove plates on board. Pick up plates and transfer to upper deck

2. Remove rust,grind and repair end cover by belzona

3. Land off coolers and delivery to workshop

4. Clean up and install gasket. Replace tie-bolts, bolts for clamping instrument flange,instrument flange, anode flange and pressure, temperature gauge,cock

5. repair and reshape deformed plates. Pressure test in workshop

6. Supply plates cooler to vessel .Reassembly and pressure test on board

In order to avoid dangerous internal leaks and clogging, every unit underwent pressure testing on both sides twice to verify leak tightness before being reassembled. The test was proceeded again after being fitted back on site to guarantee safety and integrity. 

Due to the installation location of plate cooler, all the plates required to be manually shifted from the side platform to the crankcase before lifting by the engine room crane. Furthermore, the vessel crane was unavailable when supply L.O cooler plates onboard. Our technicians executed the hard work of transferring hundreds of plates (459 PCS) from the upper deck to E/R by manpower, ensuring no time was lost in the critical path of the vessel’s schedule.

Our plate cooler workshop is situated on Zhoushan Main Island, which is highly compliant and standard, fully equipped with hydraulic test facilities to accommodate all types of plate coolers . We have also installed pollution control equipment including an oily water separator to properly treat discharged wastewater.
